• Corporation Nation by Charles Derber - How Corporations Are Taking Over Our Lives and What We Can Do About It (St Martin's Press). Americans are losing control over their lives - to a hidden government called the corporate system. Derber spoke about this subject in Seattle as part of the NGO conference outside the WTO conference, explaining how corporations and property rights gained power in the 19th and 20th centuries, at the expense of human rights and democracy.

• Wall Street by Doug Henwood - a good introduction to how Wall Street works, with critical analysis from a left perspective.

• One World, Ready or Not: The Manic Logic of Global Capitalism by William Greider - a look at the effects of globalization at the human level, what is going on, and what can be done.
