The Workers in the Valley
You are basically a client of government for creating their military
technology. The Federal government came to you because they were
looking for a way to start their technological military advancements.
Your orchards and canneries are leaving the area and are being replaced
by electronics production sites. The land is looking a lot different,
less green.
You do not have a lot of money yet, but feel comfortable since the government
has given you the needed capital to subsidize your work. They give
you money to create your products, then buy the products off of
you. You have started companies such as Fairchild, and Hewlett Packard.
Your agricultural related jobs have left, and are your only options for
work are these electronics production jobs. At least a sizable portion
of the electronics firms have unions - seven of the largest employers.
You are starting to get much attention in the private sector because
of what you are producing for the military. Government is offering
you cheap land already equipped with infrastructure. Local government
is listening a lot to what you have to say. You want less restrictions
and obligations so you can step into the commercial market.
Your new jobs don't pay much, but people say that the technology is going
to be good for everybody down the road so you are hopeful. For
every dollar you make your boss makes 22 dollars. You have to
give up the car because you cannot make the payments.
